Oak Green School

Mental Health and Wellbeing for Parents

Our Aims

Oak Green School aims to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for our whole school community: pupils, staff and parents. We recognise that mental health and emotional wellbeing is just as important as physical health.

The World Health Organisation defines mental health and wellbeing as “a state of wellbeing in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

Our Wellbeing Team

We are very fortunate to have Mrs Ellerby, our full time Nurture, Wellbeing and Mental Health Lead here at Oak Green School.

Our wellbeing team also includes:

Mrs Waring - Family Support Manager

Mrs Bernaldo - Family Support Worker

Mrs Pellegrini - Family Support Worker

Miss Hodge - Pupil and Family Support Assistant

Mrs Wilkins - ELSA/EBSA/Medical Lead

Our wonderful team of Peer Mentors.

Supporting Wellbeing and Mental Health In School

If people are in good health mentally and physically, they are better able to cope with the challenges of day to day life  and when they feel positive, they are more open to new ideas, creativity and change, making them more present and effective in their day to day lives. Our role for the school community is to ensure that everyone is able to manage times of change and stress, be resilient, are supported to reach their potential and have access to help when they need it.

All pupils at Oak Green School learn about what they can do to maintain positive mental health, what affects their mental health, how they can reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues and where they can go if they need help and support.

Wellbeing and Mental Health

Things that can help everyone stay mentally well include:

Step 1:  Connect with other people

Step 2:  Be physically active

Step 3:  Learn new skills

Step 4:  Give to others

Step 5:  Pay attention to the present

Safe Haven

We are reaching out to local schools with information for parent/carers about our Mental Health Crisis Service.

Our service has invaluable resources to support individuals struggling with their mental health, and we are particularly mindful of the strain around cost of living now and how that is impacting our communities.

The Bucks Safe Haven service works in partnership with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and most recently we have been fortunate to secure dedicated workers from Citizens Advice Bucks, Oasis Partnership and Connection Support to provide expertise on issues such as benefits, unmanageable bills, housing crisis such as risk to tenancy/becoming homeless and substance misuse.

As well as this, our service offers individuals the opportunity for a safe and confidential space to talk to our workers about what is happening to them, and we work alongside them to support them to be safer or find the support they might need.

Our best regards,

The Safe Haven Team
