Parents in Partnership
Parents and carers are first teachers, with that in mind we engage parents in many ways such as: theme week celebrations, parent volunteers, parents who hear children read, Stay and Play sessions in Foundation, Come and Read sessions in our library, adult education courses, courses at our children’s centre and parent workshops in English and Maths – amongst other events. We have theme week celebrations to which all parents and carers are warmly invited.
Parents evening is heavily supported as are our school productions and our class assemblies.
We have an ‘open door’ policy. Should you wish to speak to your child’s teacher, the end of the day is usually the most convenient time. Should you wish to speak to a senior member of staff, please contact the school office and an appointment will be made for you if that member of staff is unavailable at that time.
At Oak Green School we strongly encourage a healthy lifestyle. We are fortunate enough to have an ‘onsite canteen’ where hot meals are freshly prepared. We work closely with our catering company to keep the price of the hot meals low and the quality high. Pupils can also bring packed lunches if they so wish. Cans of fizzy drink, chewing gum and similar sweets are not permitted. It also requested that drinks included with the packed lunch should be in a plastic bottle.
Free School Meals
We strongly advise any parents or carers who are on any benefits to enquire at our school office to see whether or not their child qualifies for free school meals. If a pupil qualifies for free school meals, the school get additional funding (via the pupil premium) to ensure the pupil makes progress more quickly at school. (Details of how our pupil premium is spent can be found on our home page.)
Our very popular PTA works tirelessly to raise additional funds to provide ‘extras’ in school. A range of community activities are held, including: school discos, Christmas and summer fayres and plant sales. The committee meet regularly and any parent or carer is very welcome to join the group. If you are interested in becoming an active PTA committee member please ask in the school office.
